This strawberry bed started with a couple of wild strawberry plants I transplanted from our chestnut forest 14 years ago! They’ve been reproducing like crazy ever since.

Looks like lunch to me.The first new potatoes of 2014, squash flowers, asparagus and fave. Strawberries for dessert.

Helichrysum italicum is an herb, some people call it curry plant but here at Petraia it tastes more like licorice. I’m thinking gelato.

One bed of fave is already finished. This second plot we are letting go to seed to use next year. We’ll also use them like a dried bean, to add to winter soups and stews.

We grow our own herbs but also all of our own spices. One of my favorites is celery seed. This lone plant we left to go to seed last fall and it has completely taken over our green house. Right now we’re using the delicate flowers.
